This beautifully framed English Land Deed completed 'in the five and thirtieth year of the reign of our soverign Lord Charles the Second by the grace of God King of England Scotland France and Ireland Defender of the Faith Anno Dni 1683' has been produced on vellum (calf skin) and is in an almost fine condition.
The scalloped effect at the top of the deed would've been matched with an exact copy and scalloped so that when the two were matched it showed it was a true copy.
Amazing to think that the individual who completed this deed would've experienced the Great Fire of London and the Great Plague.
As an aside, the clerk who completed this document was paid by the word which resulted in the introduction of 'legalize' where if a sentence could be streched out by the use of additional words, the clerk was paid more.
Measuring 107cm x 52cm, this piece would look great on a lawyer's office wall.
